Chapter 2: Search Engines
Idea 5: Pay Per Click Search Engines
Pay Per Click Search Engines are search engines where the results come from advertisers who place ads on particular keywords.
When a person does a search, they see (as search results) a list of the ads for the keyword that they entered. The search results are sorted so that those advertisers who have "bid" most money per click come at the top, and those who have bid less money per click come at the bottom. When the user clicks on a search result, the corresponding advertiser is charged the amount of their bid (of course advertisers who bid the most tend to get the most visitors, but also pay the most for each of those visitors).
In our experience, Pay Per Click Search Engines can be an effective and low cost method of advertising, especially if you concentrate on the leading Pay Per Click Search Engines (you can check how popular any Pay Per Click Search Engine is, using the Free Alexa Toolbar ) and bid on lots of keywords.
It is also worth knowing, that results from many of the leading Pay Per Click Search Engines are shown not only on their own sites, but on other leading sites too.
