Idea 52: Email Discussion Lists
Like Newsgroups (see Idea 51: Newsgroups Signatures), Email Discussion Lists are discussions (each Discussion List is usually focused around a particular subject area) which are conducted by email. They differ in that whereas Newsgroups are managed by many servers across the Internet, Email Discussion Lists are usually ran from a particular site with a particular owner.
The rules for different Email Discussion Lists vary widely, but most Lists do not allow off-topic posts or blatant ads, and will consider such posts to be spamming.
However, many (but not all - check the rules/FAQ for any particular Lists that you intend to post to) do allow Email Signatures (see Idea 49: Email Signatures), provided your post is actually participating in the group and not just advertising.
As with Newsgroups, if you participate in an Email Discussion List, everybody who sees your post will also see your Signature.
