Chapter 11: Getting Other Webmasters To Promote Your Site
Idea 83: Syndicating Cartoons
You could give away cartoons or comic-strips from your site in return for a link-back. With a little JavaScript, you set-up your site, so that the cartoon code that you give to other webmasters automatically updates the cartoon daily/weekly/monthly/etc. and always includes a link-back to your site.
It's cheapest, if you can draw the cartoons yourself (if you're not good at drawing on the computer, draw them on paper and then use a scanner) rather than hiring a cartoonist. If you do hire a cartoonist, make sure you agree with the cartoonist that you will own the copyrights on the finished cartoons.
(Of course, you can't give away cartoons that you are not the copyright-holder of, unless you have permission from the copyright-holder).
Once you have the cartoon graphics, then you set-up the necessary JavaScript that other webmasters can link to.
If you do this, be sure to explain clearly to visitors, that they can link to your cartoons, how to link to your cartoons, and any Terms and Conditions that you might apply.
When your syndication JavaScripts are all finished and working, be sure to tell people about it. An easy way to do this is to list it on FreeSticky.com and StickySauce.com which contain indexes of these types of things.

- HTML Protection Rocket
This program is designed to protect HTML code from prying eyes, however it includes a function which can convert entire files (and parts of files) to JavaScript. An advantage of using this program, is that the HTML code can be compressed and encoded in JavaScript form - making the code harder to "steal", and saving you web space and bandwidth.
