Chapter 6: Building Email Lists
Idea 45: Buying Subscribers
There are services which allow you to buy subscribers to your ezine, typically charging you per-subscriber. Many of these services use the kind of techniques we discussed in Idea 43: Ezine Pop-Up Exchanges and Idea 44: Co-Registrations to get these subscribers.
If you do this, be sure to use a reputable service (and check where and how they get their subscribers), as you don't want to end-up spamming people who don't want to receive your newsletter or didn't even know that they were subscribed.
Non-spam (the only kind we would recommend) subscription collection services generally work this way: They put your subscription process in their advertising forms/pages - and people opt-in (i.e. ask for themselves to be added to your list). However the service works, the key to look for is that people have truly opted in: that is the what makes the difference between non-spam (sending people info they have specifically requested), and spam (sending unsolicited and unwanted email to people).
