Chapter 11: Getting Other Webmasters To Promote Your Site

Idea 85: Syndicate Your Headlines In JavaScript

While RSS Feeds (see Idea 84: RSS Feeds) are a very powerful way to syndicate your headlines and other content, reading somebody else's RSS feed and display it on their web site is beyond the capabilities of many webmasters.

Thus, if you have an RSS Feed, there may be webmasters who would like to use it, but simply don't know how.

You could cater to these webmasters by providing your headlines (complete with links to the full stories on your site) as a JavaScript that they can link to:
  1. Design HTML Table containing your headlines, with links to the corresponding stories on your site.

  2. Convert the HTML code to JavaScript, for example, using JSINC: Javascript include file creator.

  3. Include instructions (and any applicable Terms and Conditions etc.), on your site so other webmasters know this facility exists, and how to use it.
When your syndication JavaScripts are all finished and working, be sure to tell people about it. An easy way to do this is to list it on FreeSticky.com and StickySauce.com which contain indexes of these types of things.
