Chapter 8: Mostly For Merchants
Idea 62: Sweepstakes and Contests
You could create a free-to-enter sweepstake or contest on your site.
- You could use this an incentive to get your visitors to do things that you want. For example, everybody who signs up for your ezine (see Idea 40: Incentives To Sign Up), or uses your tell-a-friend form (see Idea 28: Tell-A-Friend), could be entered free into your sweepstake .
- Sometimes, if cleverly promoted, a sweepstake or contest can generate word-of-mouth buzz. For example, if you're offering an exciting prize, people might tell their friends or family about your offer.
- You may be able to list your site in directories of sweepstakes and contests.
Obviously there may be costs associated with giving away prizes, so you'll need to take that into account.
Please note: There probably are laws in your particular location that regulate sweepstakes and contests, so we recommend that you consult with an attorney as necessary. We are not attorneys, so can not offer any advice on legal matters.
