Chapter 5: Leveraging Your Visitors

Idea 24: Traffic Conservation - Search

Putting search boxes on your site to allow visitors to search Amazon.com, ClickBank, etc., is very popular. Amazon's Associate program even provides a search function for free to all their Associates (ClickBank doesn't currently have a search feature built into their system, you'll need to get a script like CBRocketExclusive! Only available from Answers 2000 Limited.).

While these are very powerful, an issue with Amazon's (and many similar) search boxes, is that they can result in visitors leaving your site. So, if a user does a search and doesn't find what they want, they've already left.

A good way round this is to use a script that allows users to search without leaving your site. In this case:
  • If the user doesn't find what they want, they are still at your site (and can do another search, click one of your other links, etc.).

  • You get at least one extra page view per visitor who searches - the search results page. If you're partipating in a Banner Exchange (see Idea 18: Banner Exchanges) or Text Link Exchange (see Idea 19: Text Link Exchanges), you'll earn at least one extra credit.

  • Piranha FeedExclusive! Only available from Answers 2000 Limited
This allows your visitors to search Amazon without leaving your site. The links in the search results are coded with your Amazon Associate ID, so they can earn you commissions.

  • CBRocketExclusive! Only available from Answers 2000 Limited
This allows your visitors to search ClickBank without leaving your site. The links in the search results are coded with your ClickBank Affiliate ID ("nickname"), so they can earn you commissions.
