Chapter 11: Getting Other Webmasters To Promote Your Site

Idea 87: Create Your Own Directory

You could create your own directory of web sites relating to a particular topic, hopefully in some way related to your business. (or alternatively you could create a directory Shareware Software, Scripts, or eBooks).

You can create a small static directory just by coding in HTML and asking webmasters to email you to be listed, but for anything more than a basic directory, you'd probably want to get a CGI or PHP script.

Once that you've created your directory, you can ask (or even perhaps require) that web sites link-back to you in order to be listed. Or, you can give sites that link-back a more prominent listing. Or, there are CGI and PHP scripts available which allow the sites in your directory to link back with a Voting or Rating box (and the more votes or better the rating, the better their listing).
